Chris Carroll, Mike Szczcerbiak and Tom Deering Win Scratch Match Play, Keith Dziak defeats Chris Carroll for the George Lesso

The 2021 season wrapped up with the final matches of the match play events and Chris Carroll defeated Keith Dziak, Mike Szczcerbiak defeated Mike Ruppel and Tom Deering defeated Tom Bigaj for the A, B and C flights of the Scratch Match Play Championship, respectively, while Keith Dziak defeated Chris Carroll for the George Lesso Championship.

After the points were all totaled up, Chris Carroll won the 2021 Player of the Year title.

South Park is the 2021 Challenge Cup Champions!

The Challenge Cup returns to South Park after our team defeated the squad from the Buffalo Golf Club in the annual 2-day matches by a score of 13-5.

Captain Chris Carroll and his squad were down by a point after the first day, 3.5 to 2.5, but stormed back on Sunday, Sept. 19 to win 10 of the 12 singles matches in dominating fashion. Congrats to the team that consisted of Carroll, Joe Abram, Keith Dziak, Jason Surdyke, Paul Schein, Sr., Mike Ruppel, Mike Szczerbiak, Dan Sikora, Ken Gawel, Ron Heiss, Don Doribiala and Tom "Pickles" Deering.

With this victory, South Park now has 8 match wins, to Buffalo Golf Club's 10 wins, with one tie. Great job by all and thank you to the members of the Buffalo Golf Club for a great competition again!

Surdyke, Dorobiala, and Guarino win Labor Day Tournament

Jason Surdyke defeated Joe Abram in a 2 hole sudden death playoff to win the A Class Labor Day crown. Surdyke shot a gross score of 4 under 66, and Abram shot a 3 under par 67, with his handicap of 1, resulted in the playoff. Surdyke's tap-in birdie on the second playoff hole won him the crown when Abram's 12 footer birdie try just slid by the cup.

Don Doriabala shot a great score of 76-13-63 to win the B Class over Ken Gawel, who shot a fine score of 80-12-68 himself to finish second.

Mark Guarino shot a 85-19-66 to nip Bob Shanahan for the C Class title by a stroke. Shanahan shot a 89-22-67 to finish alone in second. Finally, Mike Ciesla won the Super Seniors 9 hole event, shooting a 44-8.5-35.5 to defeat Pat McCann by 2 strokes after McCann shot a 47-9.5-37.5.

Carroll, Sikora, Heiss and Ciesla are the 2021 Club Champions

Congratulations to our South Park Golf Club Champions, from left to right, Mike Ciesla (Super Seniors), Ron Heiss (C Class), Dan Sikora (B Class) and Chris Carroll (A Class).

Carroll won A Class with a 36 hole score of 1 under par 139. Jason Surdyke and Sean Michalski finished in a tie for second at 1 over par 141. Sikora won B Class at a score of 161, Jimmy Quinn was second at 163 and Ken Gawel third at 165. Heiss won C Class with a 2 day score of 172, while Chris Escott and Joe Gawlak finished tied for second at 175. Ciesla won the Super Seniors with an 18 hole score of 87. Ray Pulinski finished second at 88 and Pat McCann third at 97.

Carroll, Szczerbiak and Bigaj are the winners of the 2021 Hall of Fame Classic

Congratulations to the winners of the July 4/Hall of Fame Classic, from left to right: Mike Szczerbiak (overall and B Class), Chris Carroll (A Class) and Tom Bigaj (C Class). The tournament was played using a modified stableford format.

Jason Surdyke finished second in "A" Class and Sean McNamara third. Mike Schuta finished second in B Class, losing in a sudden death playoff to Szczerbiak, and Jimmy Quinn finished third. Mike Lupinetti finished second in "C" Class, with Steve Scanlon third. Finally, Fran Conmy won the 9 hole Super Seniors Category, with Mike Ciesla finishing second, and Ray Pulinski third. Great shooting men!

South Park GC "A" Class Team Finishes Second at the WNY Public Links Golf Association Championship

Congratulations to the A Class team from South Park on finishing 2nd in the WNY Publinks Team Championship held at at Hyde Park GC on June 26. Great shooting by the squad, finishing 3 shots behind the winning team from Sheridan Park GC in very windy conditions.

The team was comprised of Sean Michalski, Mark Poloncarz, Keith Dziak, Chris Carroll, Paul Schein, Jr. and Joe Abram.

Also, great job by the B Class Team from South Park at the WNY Publinks B Class Team Championship, also held at Hyde Park GC on June 26, finishing in a tie for 3rd, 3 strokes behind the winning B team from Sheridan Park GC. Well done by all!

Irish win the 2021 "Ed Krypel/Jim Schaefer Polish V. Irish Challenge Match"

On Saturday, June 12, the lads from the Emerald Isle successfully defended their 2020 Polish v. Irish title win by defeating the kadets from Poland by a close score of 699 to 703. The lowest 10 net scores per team were taken and matched up, with the lower score determining the winner.

Jason Surdyke led all players and won A Class after defeating Gary Masocco in a sudden-death playoff. Don Dorobiala won B Class and Ken Gawel won C Class. After the event, the club voted unanimously to permanently rename the event the "Ed Krypel/Jim Schaefer Polish v. Irish Challenge Match" by adding Jim Schaefer's name to the title because the late Jim Schaefer and Ed Krypel were the 2 members who started the Match back in the 1970s.

Michael Szczerbiak was low player for the Memorial Day Tourney and wins B Class; Chris Carroll wins A Class and Kyle Mackowiak takes C Class

Cold, windy conditions greeted the players in the 2021 South Park Golf Club Memorial Day Tourney, and higher scores were the result. Michael Szczerbiak was the low overall for the day, and took the B Class crown, with a score of 78-10=68. Chris Carroll won A Class with a great gross score of 67-+2=69. Kyle Mackowiak won C Class with a 93-23=70.

Cazenovia Golf Club Wins 2021 South Buffalo Cup

On Sunday, May 23, the 24 members of the Cazenovia Golf Club defeated the team from South Park in 2021 South Buffalo Cup by a score of 34-26. With their victory today, both clubs have 2 match wins. 4 9 hole matches were held by the players: 1 2-Man Modified Alternate Shot, 1 2-Man Scramble, 1 2-Man Best Ball and 1 singles, with each match equaling 1 point. Mark Poloncarz and Tom Wasielewski led the South Park team by winning 3 of their 4 matches.
