Past Club Champions The Course
Hall of Fame
On Saturday and Sunday September 24 and 25, the South Park and Buffalo Golf Clubs held the 9th edition of the Challenge Cup and this year's competition went to the lads from South Park as they won in convincing fashion by a score of 15 1/2 to 2 1/2 points. The Challenge Cup is an annual Ryder Cup-style event decided by 18 matches - 6 matches on Saturday played using a 2 man fourball format and 12 individual singles matches on Sunday - with each match being worth one point.
The South Park team had a banner first day winning 5 of the 6 matches played at the Grover Cleveland Golf Course, Buffalo G.C.'s home course, and then won 10 out of the 12 singles matches played at the South Park Golf Course on Sunday. The margin of victory was the largest in the history of the event
Sean McNamara was to captain the team but had to withdraw due to a death in the family. So past captain Mark Poloncarz "pinch hit" in and led the team to victory. The South Park team consisted of Poloncarz, Dan Fitzgibbons, Tim Knott and Chuck Griesinger in A Class; Mike Kane, Jay Cyman, Paul Schein and Mark Staniszewski in B Class; and Paul Ewing, Mick Ewing, Matt Sullivan and Wayne Cross in C Class.
The Buffalo Golf Club squad still leads in match wins 5 to 4, but for 2011 it is the South Park squad that won the cup, which will be on display in the South Park clubhouse until next year's competition.

Darin Koepnick won the B Class crown over Paul Schein. Paul Ewing pulled the double in C Class when he won the Scratch Match Play Championship to go along with his medal play victory when he defeated Charlie Poloncarz in the finals.
Jason Surdyke, the former Daemen College star, joined the multiple winner category when he won his second South Park Golf Club Championship earlier this month. Surdyke carded rounds of 71 and 74 to defeat former champ Dan Fitzgibbons by 3 shots. Sean McNamara finished third and Mark Poloncarz fourth.
In B Class, Mark Staniszewski narrowly defeated Jay Cyman and Paul Schein by one stroke after rounds of 77 and 76. The B Championship went back and forth all day, but two closing pars sealed the deal for Staniszewski, who is having a banner year as he also recorded his first hole-in-one on South Park’s difficult fourth hole on August 16. Brian Carrig finished fourth three strokes behind.
Paul Ewing came from behind to capture the C Class with scores of 87 and 83. First round leader Bill Daley finished second, Fred Sulkowski third and club president Matt Sullivan fourth. The members of the golf club like to thank the many local golf fans who came out on the final day of the tournament to watch the play. The club also would like to thank the grounds staff at the South Park Golf Course for the excellent condition of the course.
