South Park Golf Club,

The members of the South Park Golf Club invite you to review our website and find out what it is that has made South Park one of the more popular men's golf clubs in Buffalo, New York for over 80 years. Our members compete in weekly and monthly tournaments on the South Park Golf Course located in South Buffalo.

The South Park Golf Club, or "SP" as its affectionately known, is a member club of the USGA, the BDGA, and the WNYPLGA. As a member club of each of these organizations all of our members are entitled to play in any tournament or event held by these organizations. While the Club has had its share of worthy champions, including past Buffalo District and WNY Public Links Golf Association Champions, most of our members just enjoy the game of golf and the friendship of our fellow members.

As you will see, the South Park Golf Club is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and one of the most economical golfing bargains in all of Western New York. New members are always welcome, and we invite you to join our Club. Please click on any of the links to the left to find out more about SP.

Passing of Former President and all-around Renaissance man Mike Kane on January 19, 2014

After a nearly 3 year long battle with Cancer, our dear friend, former president, 3 time "B" Class champion, and all around good man Mike Kane passed away on January 19, 2014 at the age of 71. Mike was a life long member of the South Park Golf Club, past president and club officer for many years and the 1990, 1992 and 2010 "B" Class Champion. Mike was an integral member of the winning 2010 Challenge Cup team and can be seen drinking from the Challenge Cup that year in the picture to the left.

Mike also made a dramatic run to the Club Championship in 2001 only to finish 2nd in a playoff to Tom Kozaczka. Most members still believe Mike actually won the tournament in regulation as he called a 1 stroke penalty on himself on the 16th hole of the final round when his ball oscillated after grounding his club, though the ball never left its position and he never touched the ball with his club. Under the rules of golf if the ball oscillates but never leaves its position a penalty need not be called. However, Mike did not feel comfortable and assessed himself a 1 stroke penalty, thereby finishing in a tie. This writer will always feel that Mike Kane walked off the course the real champion that year even if the record books state otherwise - the true character of the man was revealed that day when he did not want to win in "controversy" even though there would have been no controversy in his win.

Mike Kane was a true Renaissance man. He could weld new parts to your car and then paint a landscape. Mike was a master wood craftsman and was involved in almost every major infrastructure project at the South Park Golf Club. He was dedicated to the club and its members and was working on the roof of the club in 2011 when he felt dizzy and was taken from the course to the hospital where he was eventually diagnosed with brain cancer. He was also a dedicated husband to his wife of many years Marge and his daughter Kellie. In the picture to the right you can see Marge celebrating with Mike the 2010 Challenge Cup victory.

A man who will be truly missed, the 2014 South Park Golf Club season will be dedicated to the life and memory of our dear friend Mike Kane.

2014 Season Kicks Off with Welcome Back Party on April 12

It may be cold outside now but the 2014 golf season will be nearly upon us, and the official South Park Golf Club season will kick off with a Welcome Back Party at 2 pm on Saturday April 12 at the John V. Weber VFW Post, 2909 South Park Avenue in Lackawanna. 2014 season dues will be accepted then. Hope everyone will be on the course at least once before the party and to see all returning members and a few new ones at the party.

Passing of Scott Hosking, 2013 "B" Class Champ

It is with great sadness we announce that Scott Hosking, 2013 "B" Class Champion, passed away suddenly on November 27, 2013. While Scott was new to the club, he will be remembered for many years after winning the 2013 "B" Class Championship in dramatic fashion with a birdie on the 1st hole of a playoff and for being an all around nice guy. Scott is pictured 4th from the right in the below picture, as he was a member of our 2013 Challenge Cup Team. The picture can be enlarged to full size by right clicking on your mouse/pad and clicking on "View Image" in the drop box. The entire South Park G.C. family extends its sincere condolences to his family on his untimely passing.

South Park GC Team Comes up Short in 2013 Challenge Cup

The 11th edition of the Challenge Cup against the Buffalo G.C. was held the weekend of September 14 and 15 and while the team from South Park fought hard, this year the Buffalo G.C. squad came out on top with an 11 - 7 point victory. Team Captain Mark Poloncarz lead his squad with 2 points as he was the only player from SP to win both his matches. Matt Sullivan and Chris Escott each finished with 1.5 points after halving their Saturday 2 man match and individually winning in the Sunday Singles. With the win, BGC now has 6 match wins to SP's 4 with 1 tie.
