South Park Golf Club Wins the 2020 South Buffalo Cup against the Cazenovia Golf Club, but loses the 2020 Challenge Cup against the Buffalo Golf Club
South Park was 1 for 2 in team match play events in 2020 as the Club won its second South Buffalo Cup against Caz, but then lost the 2020 Challenge Cup against the Buffalo Golf Club. In the closest South Buffalo Cup match, South Park defeated Caz by a score of 19 to 17 to avenge the prior year's loss. South Park leads in South Buffalo Cup competitions, 2 to 1, and will defend its crown in May of 2021.
South Park held the lead after Day 1 of the Challenge Cup held at South Park against the Buffalo Golf Club by a score of 4-2, but BGC stormed back to win the Cup by a final score of 12-6 on a very rainy Sunday at Grover. On the good side, Jason Surdyke did record a hole-in-one on the 154 third hole. With its victory, the Buffalo Golf Club leads in match victories by a score of 10 to 7 with 1 tie.
Chris Carroll, Joe Dorobiala and Tom Deering Win 2020 Scratch Match Play Championships; Mike Daniels wins the George Lesso Championship
On August 17, the South Park Golf Club held the finals of its annual season-long Scratch Match Play Championship. In "A" Class, Chris Carroll successfully defended his 2019 title by defeating Keith Dziak in the finals, 3 and 2. Joe Dorobiala defeated Mike Ruppel by 2 and 1 to win "B" Class, and Tom Deering defeated Tom Bigaj 3 and 2 to win "C" Class. Congratulations to all on winning one of the South Park "majors."
Mike Daniels won the other match play "major" when he defeated Mike Marusewski in the finals of the season long George Lesso Championship by a score of 2 and 1. Daniels victory was a popular one, having lost the finals the prior year to Paul Schein, Sr.

Paul Schein, Jr., Paul Schein, Sr., Ken Gawel and Ray Pulinski are the 2020 South Park Class Champions
On the weekend of July 25 and 26 the South Park Golf Club held its 88th Club Championship, and a new champion for the club was crowned when Paul Schein, Jr. won after recent good finishes. shooting a one under par 36 hole score of 139. Chris Carroll finished second at one over par 141, and Sean Michalski finished third at 142.
In "B" Class, Paul Schein, Sr. parlayed his steady play to another championship crown. Ken Gawel captured "C" Class again with his usual steady play and Ray Pulinski captured his first super senior crown. Congratulations to all on winning one of the South Park "majors."

Chris Carroll, Mike Kuhn and Matt Sullivan tops in the Hall of Fame
Rainy conditions greeted the players for the July 4 Hall of Fame Tournament on June 27, but then the weather turned perfect and scores reflected it with some low shooting in the stableford format. Chris Carroll led "A" Class with a 4 under 66 and a total of 26 points. Tim Knott and Sean McNamara finished tied for 2nd at 25 points, with McNamara recording a rare eagle 2 on the 8th hole. Mike Kuhn was tops in "B" Class with 24 points, followed by Mike Zelaski at 23 and Don Buckley at 20 points. Matt Sullivan won in a playoff against Ken Gawel after both finished at 26 points to capture "C" Class. Nick Schaefer finished in third at 23 points. Chris Carroll Sets New Modern Course Record of 60!
On Fathers Day, Chris Carroll shot 29-31 to set the modern course record of 60. Tom Deering and Mark Staniszewski attested the round, which also included Chris's son. Chris is now the second person to shoot 60 on the South Park course, Dr. Joe Pantera shot it in the 1960s, though on a shorter version of teh course. A great Father's Day all around!
Irish win Ed Krypel Memorial Polish v. Irish Challenge Match
Led by the stellar shooting of Tom Deering, the lads from Ireland defeated the Kadets from Poland in the 40th edition of the Ed Krypel Memorial Polish v. Irish Challenge Match 691 to 700 strokes, respectively. Deering's net 63 led all players, followed by Mike Lupinetti's 66 for the Irish squad, and Jason Surdyke's 66 for the Poles. Congratulations to the Irish, though the Poles still lead in match victories.
Jason Surdyke, Joe Dorobiala and Ken Gawel Memorial Day Tourney Winners
The 2020 season kicked off with the Memorial Day Tournament, with one of the biggest fields ever. Jason Surdyke led all golfers and A Class with a net 66 (67-1-66). Joe Dorobiala won B Class shooting 78-7-71 and Ken Gawel won C Class shooting 85-14-71. Full results can be found HERE.
