COMPTROLLER POLONCARZ

Mark Poloncarz is Erie County Comptroller

Nov 08, 2005 - Following the surprise resignation of Nancy Naples earlier this year two political newcomers answered the challenge to serve - Republican John Canavan, a financial analyst and accountant, and the man voters selected as their new Comptroller, Democrat Mark Poloncarz, a Lackawanna attorney.

“We don't even have a budget yet for 2006,” said Poloncarz. “Once the budget's passed I'll be reviewing that budget before I take office on January 1 to figure out what we have in Erie County and what we need to go forward.”

“It's been a great experience,” said Canavan. “I've really enjoyed the process of going out and meeting people and telling them about my background, what I can do and listening to what their needs are. I've been really invigorated by what I've found in Erie County.”

Poloncarz says he plans on working closely with all levels of county government - the Legislature, the County Executive, and the newly-formed Erie County Fiscal Stability Authority.

“As soon as possible I'm going to try to audit Erie County Government and Departments to find out how we can do things better,” said Poloncarz. “First off, we need to figure out where we are, where we can go forward.

“I'm glad the voters responded to my message of fiscal discipline and common-sense leadership because to move Erie County forward, when our best days are still ahead of us, we need to attack these issues now.”
