COMPTROLLER POLONCARZ

ECC Audit

Jul 19, 2006 - Bill Mariani is the President of ECC and there are now questions about his contract. " We have some questions as to wether (sic) he was entitled to recieve (sic) some compensation time that he did recieve (sic)." said Erie County Comptroller Mark Poloncarz.

An audit by the comptrollers (sic) office shows Mariani got 2 raises last year. One was for $9,000 dollars. The other was a straight 2% salary increase. The comptroller believes Mariani should get 1 or the other, not both. It also showed thousands of dollars in comp time. " Mr. Mariani is not entitled to comp time that that be taken care of and his account be zeroed out, and that if he did recieve any comp time or any payment for comp time that it be recaptured by the college" said Poloncarz.

Mariani was not available for comment on camera but did release this statement. "The college is pleased with the fact that the comptroller's report found no substantial financial or administrative defeciencies for an institution that has an 85 million dollar budget. Any issues identified in the report will be addressed by the collegues administration and board of trustees." said Mariani.

Mariani mentioned nothing about that raise or comp time, but in the audit the college says Mariani is entitled. "We asked for the documentation to back up their argument they were unable to produce that documentation, and in fact they are really not certain what his status is. And when they presented the budget to Erie County they've listed Mr. Mariani as a senior executive staff employee. " said Poloncarz.
