(Erie County, NY, October 2, 2005) - - The Erie County Executive's proposed 4 year budget is meeting some critics. Some feel the plan is not enough to save the county from fiscal ruin. News 4's Alysha Palumbo has more.
With the four year plan narowly approved, political candidates are sounding off over what this plan means to Erie County. Comproller Candidate Mark Poloncarz: "This is only the first step in restoring responsible government to Erie County, much work still remains to be done to come up with a viable 4 year economic plan for Erie County."
Comproller Candidate John Canavan: "They're all dancing around the issues of whether we should have a property tax increase or a sales tax increase but what we need to be doing is focusing on efficient government."
Politicians aren't the only ones divided over the plan. Buffalo resisdent Timothy Tepas: "I was really pleased to have the legislature do something. It may not be a perfect plan, but it's a plan."
Buffalo resident Frank Gaik: "If you just keep on taxing and don't improved the quality of life, let's go back to zero and find something else to be done because having the taxes without improvement is just going to have more people packup and leave."
Buffalo resident Desiree Tillery: "I don't mind it that much that we have this increase it's just that there needs to be a way in how it's spent. If it's spent correctly where we can get a plus then that's good, our money is going to where it's supposed to go."
