CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. - Erie County Comptroller candidate Mark Poloncarz believes it is wrong for Nancy Naples to resign from her post as comptroller. "This is no time for the Republican comptroller to act in such an irresponsible way," said Poloncarz. "She has an obligation to the community and to voters who elected her in 2001. Despite what Giambra says, this budget crisis has not been averted. Now with the comptroller leaving office, it is only going to compound the problem."

Poloncarz calls upon the Erie County Legislature to act immediately to appoint an interim comptroller who will be completely independent of Joel Giambra and his administration. He said, "We need someone who will carry us through until the voters can elect a new independent fiscal watchdog for Erie County."
