BUFFALO, N.Y. - Mark C. Poloncarz, the endorsed Democratic, Independence and Working Families Party candidate for Erie County Comptroller, today announced his plan for the Erie County's Comptroller's office that he will implement if elected this November. At a press conference in front of the unfinished Erie County Public Safety Campus in Buffalo, Poloncarz unveiled a ten point action agenda to restore Erie County's fiscal health and ensure a brighter future for the county.

"The Erie County Comptroller is provided the tools to prevent a fiscal crisis before it happens," said Poloncarz. "But the tools and power won't do any good if the comptroller refuses to use them." He said he would operate the comptroller's office in a non-partisan manner to manage county finances effectively and hold elected leaders accountable with frequent reports and an open public dialog.

Highlights of Poloncarz's ten point action agenda for the Erie County Comptroller's office include:

  • Frequent reports to taxpayers, including reports to the legislature and the public on the Erie County executive's budget proposals within two weeks of the budget's release.
  • Independent reviews and confirmations of all present and future revenue estimates from the county executive, to catch inaccurate or false information.
  • Increased audits of Erie County's finances, including independent agencies such as Erie Community College, the Erie County Water Authority and the Erie County Medical Center.
  • Restoring Erie County's credit rating on Wall Street through better debt control.
  • An end to special deals for friends of political donors of government staff.
  • Regular performance and management reviews of all county government departments.
  • A commitment that he or his staff will attend all public sessions and finance meetings of the Erie County Legislature to answer questions or provide assessments of budget statements.
