PANEL BACKS POLONCARZ IN RACE FOR COMPTROLLER

The Grand Island Democratic Committee has endorsed Buffalo lawyer Mark C. Poloncarz for Erie County comptroller.
The announcement was made during the committee's regular meeting last week. Poloncarz also is endorsed by the Erie County Democratic Executive Committee and the Erie County Independence Party.
"The committee sees my candidacy as a step in the right direction for Erie County," Poloncarz said. "I believe because I am the only candidate in this race without any ties to (County Executive) Joel Giambra, I can be a truly independent watchdog for the people of Erie County."
Poloncarz, 37, works at the firm of Kavinoky Cook in Buffalo.
